On Saturday inside Capital One Arena, lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) used his signature strength to pin 130-pound titleholder Hector Luis Garcia (16-1, 10 KOs) to the canvas. Hector Garcia took a barrage of power shots on shaky legs and later remarked, “When he shot me, I wasn’t aware of my location. Even now, my head hurts. I was unable to see, but I can now.”

The match was officially stopped 13 seconds into Round 9, with Davis leading by scores of 78-73, 78-73, and 78-74, according to the judges’ scorecards.

The 28-year-old Davis, a native of neighboring Baltimore, maintained his composure and attention throughout a turbulent training camp that included a night in jail the week before the bout following a minor arrest for domestic assault. Talking about his next fight against Ryan Garcia, Tank said, “I’m prepared for the fight, God willing,” Davis declared. “I’m here, and it’s supposed to happen in April. I’m ready on my end. I’ll take a week off, after which I’m certain to return to the gym.”
