Australia are confident in David Warner and have backed him to do well at the top of the order in the upcoming World Test Championship Final and the Ashes series. Warner had a difficult tour in India, but the Ashes team selectors weren’t sure at first where they would slot him. However, Warner’s head coach, Andrew McDonald, has given him a high recommendation and shown confidence in his skills. This means that Warner will play a significant role in the Australian team’s Ashes series effort against England. Follow WTC Final 2023 LIVE updates with InsideSport.IN

“We’re optimistic with what Dave’s got left, we’ve picked him in the squad and we feel he’ll play a really big part in the Ashes and the World Test Championship,” McDonald told Australian radio station SEN in Melbourne.

David Warner has been picked by the selectors for the team that will play India in the WTC final and the first two Ashes Tests. To show that they are still considering all of their possibilities for the first batting position, they have also called up Marcus Harris and Matt Renshaw.

This implies that there may still be some competition for the top-order positions, and the ultimate choice of who will bat with Warner at the top of the order will be made by the team management after evaluation of the players’ form and performance in the lead-up to the matches.

“He’s an important part of that squad, and if he wasn’t, we would’ve had a clear checkpoint after the WTC going into the Ashes,” he added. “That’s not the case, we’ve picked our squad for the first two Ashes tests as well, so he’s clearly in our plans and ready to go.”

Insidesport

Warner has had difficulty scoring runs in recent Tests, scoring just 26 in three innings during the most recent tour of India before getting hurt and returning home. This is in contrast to his courageous double-hundred against South Africa in December.

During the last Ashes tour, Warner had a terrible series in England with a 9.50 series average, the poorest ever for an opener to play 10 innings in a series, and bowler Stuart Broad took his wicket seven times.

2015 went better for Warner, who scored 418 runs at an average of 46.44. For Delhi Capitals, Warner concluded the Indian Premier League with 516 runs at an average of 36.86, which was below his lifetime average of 41.54.
