David De Gea: Manchester United first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea posts an emotional message on his social media saying goodbye to Manchester United. The club and the man have been wrapped in controversy in the last few days. That the Red Devils backed away from their contract with De Gea after it was signed. Even though the club denied the accusations, it became clear that the relationship between De Gea and Man United had worsened. In the last few days, Man United have also come much closer to sign Andre Onana from Internazionale.

David De Gea who has spent most of his career at Manchester United, joined them back in 2011. After 12 seasons and 545 appearances later, the goalkeeper has announced that he will leave the Red Devils through a post on his social media. He recently broke Peter Schmeichel’s 180 clean sheets record for Manchester United. He is leaving the club with 190 clean sheets for Man United in 12 years. De Gea has posted an emotional message for the Red Devils fans while announcing his exit.
He wrote on his social media post, “I just wanted to send this farewell message to all Manchester United supporters. I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years. We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club. I took incredible pride everytime I pulled on this shirt, to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world was an honour only bestows upon a few lucky footballers.”
He added, “It’s been an unforgettable and successful period since I came here. I didn’t think from leaving Madrid as a young boy we would achieve what we did together. Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings. Manchester will always be in my heart, Manchester has shaped me and will never leave me. We’ve seen it all.” It will be especially sad for fans as the player who has given so much to the club is leaving on a controversial note.

In the last few days, the relationship between Manchester United and De Gea has worsened. David De Gea was their highest-earning player with a massive £375,000 per week salary. His contract was set to expire on June 30 which was not extended. There remained a doubtful situation as to whether Man United would let go of their first-choice goalkeeper without having a replacement in hand. In the meantime, a rumour appeared that De Gea agreed and signed a new contract with the Red Devils.
Apparently, he took a pay cut and agreed to play as their second-choice goalkeeper. As per reports, Man United went back on their words. The club denied everything, but they still had to clear everything out with De Gea as his contract with them was running out. In the meantime, Man United were and still are actively trying to bring in Andre Onana from Internazionale. As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, they could soon complete the deal. If done, Onana could be playing as their first-choice goalkeeper from the upcoming season.
