Dani Alves Arrest: It has been almost three months since the Brazilian star player Dani Alves has been arrested and jailed. He was charged with sexual assault by a 23-year-old woman. After Dani Alves was first accused of the wrongdoings, he blatantly denied ever knowing the woman who accused him. However, he quickly changed his story after a change of lawyer. He later said that he knew the woman and had physical relations with her, but it was consensual. He did not want to admit that he cheated on his wife, Joana Sanz, so he previously lied.
Alves was arrested on January 20 after he was present in Barcelona for his mother-in-law’s funeral. He has since been in a jail near Barcelona. The player and his lawyers have requested bail multiple times, but the court believes Alves is a high risk of flying back to Brazil if he’s let go. Additionally, If a Brazilian is sentenced abroad, the country has no policy to extradite that citizen, so bail requests were denied.
During these three months, Alves’ wife decided on a split which she announced through a social media post a month ago. She posted a picture of a letter she wrote in her diary. The letter contained a heartfelt message, like, “Forgiving alleviates, so I keep the magic and close a stage of my life that began on 18/5/15. I give thanks for the opportunities and learning that life gives me, no matter how difficult they are. Here is a strong woman moving on to the next stage of her life.”
Alves then replied to his wife’s letter with another letter of his own which was leaked to a Spanish TV Channel. It read, “I understand the pain the unjust situation we are experiencing is causing and I understand that you have not been able to withstand all that pressure.”

He added, “The facts of which I am accused are foreign to me and to the values that have guided my life: love, respect and effort. I will continue fighting as I have always done, believing in myself with the support and confidence of those who know who I really am.”
His ex-wife and the mother of his two children, Dinorah Santana has publicly shown her support for the player several times. However, Alves’ fate has worsened after being arrested for the accusations. He was considered one of the best full-backs in the world but since his arrest, UNAM Puma, his last club sacked him.
