Former Barcelona and Brazil fullback Dani Alves,, was sentenced to 18 years in prison after being found guilty of rape. A woman accused Alves of sexually assaulting her in a Barcelona nightclub, claiming that she was the recipient of his actions. After hearing the woman and a witness’ evidence on Friday, a judge in Spain ordered Alves to remain in detention.

The Brazilian veteran was accused of sexual assault on December 30, 2022. According to reports, Alves went to the Mossos d’Esquadra de Les Corts police station to give a statement regarding the accusations brought against him. The most recent sources state that Alves will soon arrive at Barcelona’s Ciutat de la Justicia. Dani Alves was given a prison term without the possibility of bail.

Martell told Antena 3 that his client has refuted any allegations of sexual assault on December 30 in the VIP restroom of the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona. He did, however, acknowledge cheating on his wife. Because Alves wanted to keep the information from his wife, he did not provide a more cogent account of the events. Thus, the three conflicting accounts that Alves has provided to this point could be interpreted as an effort by the former Barcelona right-back to conceal his infidelity from his wife.

The player’s attorneys are certain that their appeal will be successful after carefully reviewing all of the case’s evidence, and that Alves will be let out of prison within a month. According to the football player’s legal team, the court will have 30 days to review the defence’s brief, hear arguments from the prosecution and the public prosecutor’s office, and then render a verdict.
