On December 30, 2022, the Brazilian veteran was charged with sexual assault. Alves is said to have gone to the Mossos d’Esquadra de Les Corts police station to testify about the charges levelled against him. According to the most recent reports, Alves is now due to arrive at Ciutat de la Justicia in Barcelona. The judge sentenced Dani Alves to prison without bail.

Earlier the Brazilian denied all such allegations. He said, “Yes, I was in that place, with more people, enjoying myself. And people who know me know that I love to dance. I was dancing and enjoying myself without invading the space of others.”

“I don’t know who that lady is. You arrive at a bathroom and you don’t have to ask who’s there. I have never invaded anyone’s space. How am I going to do it with a woman or a girl? No, for God’s sake.”

Joana Sanz, his wife, said in the interview that it seemed good to her that her husband went out with his friends to clear his head:“I know who my husband is, I know how I met him, I know how respectful he is because not even when he was getting to know me did he lack to respect”.

She added that she has observed how women approach Dani Alves in discos or other settings where they congregate, highlighting the fact that they do so in her presence. Before the Prosecutor’s Office made a final decision to imprison Alves without the option of bail for an alleged sexual assault, the model provided a statement.

In a television interview, his ex-wife, Dana Dinorah, asserted that the 39-year-old football player could not have committed the alleged crime. She claimed that since his arrest and detention, she is through a nightmare and emphasised that he would “never” conduct the alleged sex crime.

The victim reportedly waived her entitlement to financial recompense on Monday, stating that she “simply wants to make sure that justice is done and the soccer player goes to prison.” Nevertheless, a judge on Wednesday found him guilty of the offence and punished him, ending his more than 20-year career in football. According to reports, his family has asked that he be kept in protective custody because they fear that he may be sexually raped while incarcerated in a federal facility.
