CWG 2022 Closing Ceremony Highlights: Commonwealth Games 2022 comes to an end with eye-catching closing ceremony at Alexander Stadium
India CWG 2022 Highlights: The closing ceremony began with a performance from Solihull band Ocean Colour Scene. From then on a host of performers from Birmingham enthralled the crowd which included Pop Band Dexys Midnight Runners, UB40, Goldie MBE performing Inner City Life. The closing ceremony also witnessed a Bhangra performance of a song from the band Panjabi MC. Ballet Dance company Rambert also paid tribute to Peaky Blinders the famous show in which the story is set in Birmingham.
The formality of the closing ceremony then began with the Commonwealth Flag being handed over to the Governor of Victoria. Victoria will be hosting the next edition in 2026, which will be a multi-city Commonwealth Games that is set to be conducted at Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Gippsland. From then on, the final performances of the night served as a teaser for the upcoming games at Victoria in Australia.
CWG 2022 Closing Ceremony LIVE: Commonwealth Games 2022 comes to an end with eye-catching closing ceremony at Alexander StadiumEarlier in the day, India bagged as many as four gold medals with Indian shuttlers winning all three titles on offer – PV Sindhu won the women’s singles, Lakshya Sen won the men’s singles and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty winning the Men’s Doubles title. Paddler Sharath Kamal won the fourth gold medal of the day by winning the Men’s Singles gold. Indian Men’s Hockey team meanwhile lost the final to Australia and settled for Silver. These performances helped India bag a total of 61 medals that includes 22 Gold medals as India finished on the fourth spot in the medals table.
Later in the opening ceremony, Star paddler Sharath Kamal and world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen led the Indian contingent by bearing the National flag. Sharath had a rich haul of four medals in this edition of the Games, having won the men’s team, mixed doubles and men’s singles gold and a silver in the men’s doubles event. While Zareen, won the gold medal in the light flyweight event (50kg) on Sunday.
