Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu have progressed to the gold medal matches. Lakshya defeated Singapore’s Teh Jia Heng with a 21-10, 18-21, 21-16.

PV Sindhu confirmed yet another medal for India with a 21-19, 21-17 win over Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min in the semifinals on Sunday. Today the Indian badminton queen will play for gold medal against Canada’s Michelle Li.

Bronze Medal Matches

Kidambi Srikanth BEAT Jia Heng Teh – 21-15, 21-18

Srikanth clinched the bronze medal after defeating Jia Heng Teh of Singapore 21-15, 21-18. The ace shuttler was at his best during the match as he crushed his opponent 21-15 in the first games and did not really allow Singapore players to be in a position of advantage.

Srikanth clinched the bronze medal after defeating Jia Heng Teh of Singapore 21-15, 21-18.

The ace shuttler was at his best during the match as he crushed his opponent 21-15 in the first games and did not really allow Singapore players to be in a position of advantage.

The second game of the match saw, the Singapore shuttler giving a tough fight but was no match to Srikanth’s swift moves. The Indian claimed the second game with the bronze medal with a score of 21-18.

The Indian duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand registered a 2-0 win over Australia’s Wendy Hsuan-Yu Chen and Gronya Somerville 21-15, 21-18. The ace shuttlers Jolly and Gopichand were at their best during the match as they crushed their opponent 21-5 in the first games and did not really allow Australian players to be in a position of advantage.

The second game of the match saw, the Australian pair giving a tough fight but the Indians were too good for them. Jolly and Gopichand claim the second game and the bronze medal in straight sets by 21-15,21-18.

Lakshya Sen beat Teh Jia Heng 21-10, 18-21, 21-16: In the first semifinal, Lakshya Sen struggled with his net play but came out winner against Singapore’s Teh Jia Heng. It was a smooth sailing for the Indian youngster in the 1st game as he capitalised on Teh’s unforced errors to take the game 21-10. But the Singaporean made a strong comeback in the second. With some brilliant net play, he outscored Lakshya 21-18 to force the match into a decider. However, Lakshya took charge in the final game. After leading 11-7 halfway through, he dominated the passage of play and win the decider 21-16. He will play the gold medal match against Malaysia’s NG Yong.

Women’s Singles: PV Sindhu beat Jia Min Yeo 21-19, 21-17: The favourite of the tournament, PV Sindhu entered the gold medal match with 21-19, 21-17 win over Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min. However, by no means, it was a smooth sailing. Sindhu looked frustrated at times, failing to match Yeo’s pace. But it’s her skills and Yeo’s unforced errors that helped Sindhu take the first game 21-19. Sindhu looked more composed in the 2nd game and dominated the first passage of play. While Yeo tried making a comeback, she could not match Sindhu’s skills. The Indian No 1 won the 2nd game 21-17. Sindhu will face Canada’s Michelle Li in the gold medal match.

Kidambi Srikanth lost to Tze Yong Ng 21-13, 19-21, 10-21: Former World No 1 Kidambi Srikanth started brilliantly in the first game against NG Yong. He ran away with a 21-13 win. But the Malaysian made a strong comeback in the 2nd game. Although Srikanth kept pace, he lost the game narrowly 19-21. However, NG Yong steamrolled Srikanth in the third game. After opening up a 11-7 lead halfway through, there was no coming back for Srikanth. He went on to lose 10-21. Srikanth will now play the bronze medal match against Singapore’s Teh Jia Heng.
