With this win, CSK claimed the top spot in the points table with 6 wins in 8 matches.
Chasing a challenging total of 157 runs, MI opener Quinton de Kock was looking in great form but was sent back by Deepak Chahar in the 3rd over of the innings. MI kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Anmolpreet Singh fell in the 5th over against Chahar while Suryakumar Yadav depart in the 6th over against Shardul Thakur. Ishan Kishan was sent back by DJ Bravo in the 10th over.

Captain Pollard and Saurabh Tiwary build a partnership of the 6th wicket. But as soon as Pollard started striking the ball Dhoni gave over to Josh Hazelwood who removed him in the 14th over. After Pollards’ wicket, Krunal Pandya came on to the crease but was run out in the 15th over. Adam Milne, Rahul Chahar and Tiwary tried their level best but MI fell short by 20 runs. Tiwary scored 50 runs in 40 balls with the help of 5 boundaries.
For CSK, Bravo picked three while Chahar picked 2 wickets. Josh Hazlewood and Shardukl Thakur also chipped in with one wicket each.

CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first. The idea seemed to have backfired as Yellow Army lost four wickets inside the powerplay including Ambati Rayudu who was retired hurt as he was hit on the elbow. Trent Boult and Adam Milne took two wickets each in the power play. Faf du Plessis was removed in the very first over of the innings while Milne dismissed Moeen Ali in the 2nd over. Both the batsman were sent back on duck. In the third over Boult took the important wicket of Suresh Raina while MS Dhoni was sent back by Milne on 3.

Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja changed the match on its head with their 5th wicket partnership. The duo scored 81 runs for the 4th wicket. Jadeja was removed by Bumrah to provide the much-needed breakthrough. After the wicket of Jadeja, Gaikwad was joined by Bravo in the middle who played an explosive cameo of 23 runs in 8 balls. Gaikwad stayed at the crease till the end and scored 88 runs in 58 balls with the help of four sixes and nine fours.
