CSA T20 League: IPL owners cast their eye on CSA’s new T20 League, IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, CSK among interested teams – Check out
As per a Cricbuzz report, IPL franchises have expressed their interest in buying teams for the upcoming CSA T20 League. The CSA have appointed Deloitte & Touche to do the assessment. The CSA has invited bids with the initial deadline extended by two days to July 13th.
The CSA as per the report have received 29 expressions of interest with many coming from the Indian Premier League. Current champions Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have made their intentions clear. Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals are also among the parties interested.
A Kevin Pietersen-led consortium and some PSL franchises have also registered their interest. PSL’s Sameen Rana-owned Lahore Qalandars are also interested in the CSA league alongside Channel 2 Group, who owned Bay Stars in the previous edition of the tournament.
It is expected to be a six-team league, with two of them set to be reserved South African investors. A CSA told Cricbuzz that the teams are expected to be announced at the end of July. The league’s first edition is likely to be conducted in January-February. It could clash with the newly established IL T20 of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and the Big Bash League.

Former IPL COO Sundar Raman is one of the big brains behind the CSA T20 League, and owns a 12.5% stake in the venture. “There is a clear gap between the best (IPL) and the 2nd best league. CSA should therefore focus on the opportunity to create the 2nd best T20 league in the World,” says a CSA league document as per Cricbuzz.
IPL franchises have also made their way into the ILT20, with Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians buying teams. As part of the arrangement, the trio will be able to get the chance to sign up to four players from their current IPL squads.
KKR already have a sister franchise in the CPL as the Trinbago Knight Riders. Rajasthan Royals alsp have part ownership of the franchise Barbados Royals, while Punjab Kings own St Lucia Kings in the CPL.
