Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr back in January this year after the World Cup ended. He was having a hard time adjusting to life at Manchester United as he was not getting enough playing time as per his expectations. As his relationship with the new coach, Erik Ten Hag soured, he did an interview with Piers Morgan. Following the explosive interview, he was let go by Man United. As per the player, he had several offers from many European clubs, but he chose to join Al-Nassr at Saudi.
As per reports, during this time, he contacted Atletico Madrid as he wanted to come back to Spain. However, Atletico Madrid fans were not happy about it. They protested against the transfer as they could not accept a former Real Madrid who had cost them the Champions League twice in 2014 and 2016. The protests saw Atletico Madrid deny the player from coming to Spain. Reportedly, as the striker is getting tired at Saudi, he wants to join Atletico Madrid and has contacted them yet again.
At Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has appeared in 17 matches and scored a total of 14 goals in all competitions. However, he joined the side in the hopes of winning more trophies. However, quickly after joining, Al-Nassr were knocked out of the Saudi Super Cup. In April, they got knocked out of the King Cup of Champions. They kept some hopes of winning the Saudi Pro League alive for the longest time. However, last week, as Al-Nassr drew against Ettifaq, that hope was lost.

Thus, Al-Nassr lost the league to the table toppers Al-Ittihad last week. As a result, Ronaldo is having another trophyless season. Apparently, after spending such a disappointing time at the club, Ronaldo has shown a desire to come back to a more competitive league where he will have the opportunity to show the strength he still has at his 38 years of age. After moving to Al-Nassr and failing to make his mark in Saudi, there is a huge doubt whether top European clubs will still want him.
His contract with Al-Nassr is till 2025, so he will need to manage a way out of the contract to leave. If he manages that and then wants to join Atletico Madrid, the club will be able to get him free of charge, but will have to give him a big enough fee. Still, they will not be able to meet his fee at Al-Nassr, so Ronaldo will have to take a huge pay cut. Coach Diego Simeone still considers him a “great reinforcement”.
