Last season a video clip went viral on the internet of Ronaldo appearing to knock the young boy’s phone out of his hand as he limped off towards the tunnel following United’s 1-0 loss to Everton. It has been alleged that the conduct of the Portuguese after the final whistle was improper and violent.

Regulation and Discipline update: Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for an incident that took place after Manchester United FC’s Premier League match against Everton FC on Saturday 9 April 2022. It is alleged that the forward’s conduct after the final whistle was improper and/or violent,” an FA statement read.

Ronaldo could be suspended from forthcoming Premier League games if proven guilty of the charge. Only once this season has the five-time Ballon d’Or winner started a league game for Erik ten Hag.

In a statement, United has said: “We note the FA announcement in relation to Cristiano Ronaldo. We will be supporting the player in response to the charge.”

“We can confirm that a 37-year-old man voluntarily attended and was interviewed under caution in relation to an allegation of assault and criminal damage,” Merseyside Police said in a statement as quoted by Sky Sports.

“The allegation relates to an incident following the Everton v Manchester United football match at Goodison Park on Saturday, April 9. The matter has been dealt with by way of a conditional caution. The matter has now concluded,” the statement added.

In a prior display of “fair-play and sportsmanship,” Ronaldo had expressed regret for the incident. And even extended an invitation for the fan to come to Old Trafford. The boy’s mother, however, rejected the offer.
