Earlier, during the match, Zimbabwe were put to bat first. After a solid start from Zimbabwe openers- Regis Chakabva and Tadiwanashe Marumani who made their opening partnership the best since 2019, Chakabva went onto score 84 runs and marked his career-best in the ODIs. Thereafter, little contributions came skipper from Brendan Taylor and Dion Myers but weren’t worthy to provide the stabilization that the hosts needed.
Just when the visitors looked dominant after tumbling regular wickets, quick-fire fifties from Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl changed the complexion of the match. Together the duo stitched a 112-run stand for Zimbabwe before Raza fell prey to Mustafizur’s bowling. Soon when Zimbabwe looked to go past 300 runs on the scoreboard, Mohammad Saifuddin struck in the 49th over, scalping three wickets in six balls. Eventually, the Tigers departed Blessing Muzarabani, the last man standing for Zimbabwe to stagger them for 298 runs.

After picking up a fifer in the first ODI, Shakib Al Hasan featured with an unbeaten 96 as he bailed the visitors out from a tricky situation in the second ODI. Chasing 241 runs target, Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were reeling at 130-5 with Shakib Al Hasan holding up at one end. The all-rounder didn’t lose his calm and kept ticking the scoreboard over with single and doubles before building up an unbeaten 69 run partnership with M Saifuddin that eventually helped the visitors secure 3 wickets win and gain a 2-0 lead over the hosts. Earlier, Zimbabwe posted 240-9 with the help of Brendan Taylor’s 46 and W Madhevere’s 56. Shoriful Islam was the pick of the bowler for Bangladesh as he returned with 4-46.
Moreover, Zimbabwe would be desperate to secure a win in this final game of the series as they haven’t managed a single win so far. The three ODI will be followed by three T20Is scheduled for July 23, 25, and 27 at the same venue – Harare Sports Club, Harare.
