Yuzvendra Chahal eyes ‘Test Cricketer’ tag after ODI World Cup 2023 heartbreak

Yuzvendra Chahal aspires to play Test cricket for India, despite missing the ODI World Cup 2023 selection. He remains hopeful, determined, and plans to excel in domestic season.

India star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal wants to represent India in Test cricket despite facing setback of not being selected for the ODI World Cup 2023 squad. He remains determined and continues to hold onto his dream of earning a Test cap. Although Yuzvendra Chahal has yet to make his debut in Test cricket for India, he remains hopeful and has expressed in a recent interview with Crictracker that he aims to excel in the upcoming domestic season.

“Every cricketer has a dream of representing his or her team on the international platform. And they reach the pinnacle when they wear whites and play red-ball cricket. I have a similar dream too. I have achieved a lot in white-ball cricket, but red-ball is still on my checklist.

“I still have the dream of getting the tag of ‘Test cricketer’ next to my name. I try to give my best in domestic and Ranji games so as to fulfil this dream of mine, and I hope to get the opportunity to represent the Indian Test team soon,” said Yuzvendra Chahal.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who entered the T20I scene for India in June 2016, has yet to feature in a T20 World Cup match for his country, even though he holds the record for being the highest wicket-taker in the shortest format.

His omission from the 2021 T20 World Cup squad was met with controversy, and in 2022, he remained on the sidelines for all six of India’s matches. However, Yuzvendra Chahal remains unfazed by his non-selection, as he understands that the decision lies beyond his control. Instead, he is fully committed to performing at his best for the team.

“That’s fine, you know. Some things are not in your hands, so I don’t ponder much on that. My focus is on giving my best and performing well till the time I’m playing the game. Be it any match, my aim is to give my 100%. Selection is something that is not in our hands,” said Yuzvendra Chahal.
