Yuvraj Singh Lite: Shivam Dube gets ultimate compliment from teammate Ravichandran Ashwin

Making the most of competitor Hardik Pandya's absence, the CSK all-rounder hit consecutive half-centuries in the first two IND vs AFG T20Is. His fluent stroke play has prompted Ashwin to call him 'Yuvraj Singh Lite'.

Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube has gained quite a few supporters in the past few days. The Indian all-rounder put in some spectacular performances in the recently-concluded IND vs AFG series. The southpaw’s fluent stroke play and ability to hit big sixes has prompted Indian off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to call Dube ‘Yuvraj Singh Lite’.

Shivam Dube has shone since being given a place in the starting line-up of IND vs AFG series. Making the most of competitor Hardik Pandya’s absence, the CSK all-rounder hit consecutive half-centuries in the first two IND vs AFG T20Is. Dube also impressed critics with his bowling, taking two crucial wickets in the series.

Speaking about Dube on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said, “I can proudly call him ‘Yuvraj Singh lite’ package. There are so many factoids about Yuvraj Singh that I could see in his game – the downswing, the height and the reach. I am not saying that he is like Yuvraj Singh, just saying he reminds me a lot of him. The beauty here is that he hits spin straight down the ground.”

Shivam Dube

Ashwin also went on to point the difference between Shivam Dube before joining CSK and his transformation after.

“Hardik Pandya is a crucial member of this Indian team. However, the emergence of Shivam Dube… Just like how we divide ears into Before Christ and After Christ, we can divide his career into ‘before CSK’ and ‘after CSK’. In West Indies conditions, which are almost CSK conditions, he is a spin-hitting monster,” the off-spinner said.
