Former Pakistan cricketer Younis Khan narrated the ordeal the team had to face after coach Bob Woolmer’s mysterious death. Woolmer was found unconscious in his hotel room on March 18, 2007 following Pakistan’s exit from the World Cup and later passed away in the hospital. Younis Khan revealed how the police shifted the entire team to another island and questioned them for three days.
Younis Khan recalls ‘torture’ after Woolmer’s death
Woolmer passed away at the age of 58 in Jamaica. The shocking turn of events unfolded as Pakistan lost to Ireland, bringing their WC dreams to a grinding halt. Recalling Woolmer, Younis claims that the side would have been very different today if the former was still the coach.
“It was like a torture for us there. While I fully understand the responsibilities a player has to show as an ambassador of his country, it should be the other way round… authorities must also look after us,” Younis recalled.
The ex-PAK cricketer also revealed that he was very close to Bob and that they used to have sit-down discussions regularly both on and off the field. Khan said that he did not sit with Woolmer the day the latter passed away as he was upset with himself for getting out for a duck and hence locked himself in the hotel room.
