The Test vs IPL has been a raging debate in recent times. Since the advent of IPL, cricketers have been choosing IPL over Test cricket, with the latest being Ishan Kishan. To tackle the growing menace, BCCI recently introduced a Test Cricket Incentive Scheme that would allow players to earn an additional amount apart from match fees depending upon the number of Test matches played. Former India opener Aakash Chopra asserted that the incentive scheme will act as a motivator for budding cricketers to represent the national team in Tests over IPL.
BCCI’s annual contract announcement made it amply clear that India’s cricket board wanted players to play first class cricket when they are not on national duty. However, some senior cricketers decided to ignore BCCI’s diktat and focus on T20 cricket.
Speaking on his YouTube channel about the Test vs IPL debate, Chopra said, “Money is a motivating factor. When the IPL money is publically discussed so much, the upcoming generation already starts thinking that they have to play the IPL because you get a lot of money there. You will get the same amount of money in Test cricket now and you will get even more at times.”

“So now it has been said that don’t think IPL is everything in your life. It is a good tournament but the attempt is that you shouldn’t prioritize it and that you won’t miss India’s Test matches,” Chopra added.
