In a saga that has stretched beyond two years, the high-profile group along with the club will face disciplinary hearings in autumn. ‘
While the ECB has not officially named the players involved, it is believed that Vaughan, now a BBC pundit, is one of the biggest names involved.
The former Ashes-winning captain was also named in the original inquiry when Yorkshire confirmed that Rafiq had indeed been subject to ‘racial harassment and bullying’.

- Rafiq files a legal complaint to address the racism at the club
- Yorkshire confirm they have failed to “resolve the issues between the club and Azeem Rafiq”
- Yorkshire pressed no charges and termed the incidents “friendly banter”
- Gary Ballance admitted to using a racial slur, with ECB suspending Yorkshire’s hosting rights. Ballance was also suspended from selection.
- Ex-Yorkshire cricketer Naveen-ul-Haq Azeem Rafiq, and Adil Rashid all allege Michael Vaughan of racism, which the England captain denied.
- Vaughan, who was stood down by the BBC for its winter coverage of the Ashes, apologises to Rafiq but continues to deny being racist.
- Vaughan is now among seven charged by ECB following an investigation into Rafiq’s allegations.

A Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) panel will conduct a hearing in September or October after ECB made its own investigation into the case. The sanctions could very well include a warning or an unlimited fine alongside playing bans, suspension of selection eligibility for matches, and completion of education programmes. The CDC could also extend the punishment to denial of entrance to grounds for those found guilty.
Meanwhile, Andrew Gale was one of 16 members of staff sacked in the aftermath of Rafiq’s revelations. As per the Daily Mail, Hoggard had called Rafiq to apologise for calling him ‘Rafa the Kaffir’ when the pair were team-mates a decade ago. Bresnan also apologised for bullying behaviour when his name came out last November but has denied ever being racist.
