Yashasvi Jaiswal: Rohit Sharma – Harbhajan Singh feels Yashasvi Jaiswal is better than many current Indian batters in the team, and the southpaw needs to be in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. While the former India off-spinner did not take any names, his comment was an indirect dig at Rohit Sharma, who has failed to live up to the expectations in IPL 2023 season. The MI captain has scored only two fifties in 14 games, while Jaiswal finished the IPL 2023 campaign with 625 runs. Follow T20 World Cup 2024 Live Updates with InsideSport.IN

While many feel Jaiswal should be added to the 50-Over World Cup squad, Harbhajan boldly predicted the southpaw will play the T20 World Cup 2024.

“If we compare the current form, and if we want to shift our focus towards youth, then Yashasvi (Jaiswal) is better than many. After the T20 World Cup defeat in Dubai (UAE) then plenty was discussed about forming a young unit for the format. Guys like Yashasvi, Rinku Singh, and Shubman Gill under Hardik Pandya should be a new team altogether.

With Hardik Pandya already in the pipeline to lead the T20 squad, Harbhajan feels it is the right time to include Jaiswal in the shortest format of the game.

T20 World Cup 2024: Will Rohit Sharma not play the T20 World Cup 2024? Ravi Shastri says time to move on from MI batter, and Virat Kohli

Ravi Shastri, who has worked closely with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli feels the two modern-day greats need to focus on 50-over and Test cricket more and allow youngsters to play T20 cricket.

“Players like Rohit, Virat Kohli, they are proven, you know what they are all about. I would go in that [good performers in the IPL] direction so that they get the opportunities, they get the exposure, whilst you keep the Virats and the Rohits fresh for one-day cricket and Test cricket.”

“Your focus there with that kind of experience should move to Test cricket, red-ball cricket for the future World Test Championship, and they stay fresh [so that] there is not too much of cricket where there is an overkill,” he added.
