Jaiswal likely to be included in India’s squad for Champions Trophy, Nitish Reddy under BCCI’s radar

Jaiswal likely to be included in India’s squad for Champions Trophy, Nitish Reddy under BCCI’s radar

Jaiswal hasn't made his ODI debut due to a lack of 50-over matches. He's already a confirmed pick as an opener in Tests and T20Is.

Yashasvi Jaiswal will find himself in the India cricket team’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The young opener has seen his stature grow series by series. His ability to switch gears with ease from format to format, and even in Test cricket, where he plays the holding game sometimes and then all of a sudden goes on the attack, has earned him a spot on the flight to Dubai in February.

According to RevSportz, Jaiswal will travel as the backup for Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Last year, the 23-year-old couldn’t find a place in Team India’s squad for the ODI World Cup. Ishan Kishan was preferred over him, and he even played a couple of matches with Shubman Gill being out due to dengue fever.

If Jaiswal is set to be named in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, it means that he’ll also be part of the India vs. England ODI series, which kicks off on February 6, just 13 days before the 8-team tournament starts in Karachi. Jaiswal could earn his maiden ODI cap, having made his T20I and Test debuts back in 2023.

Jaiswal’s numbers in List A cricket are incredible, and he was always going to play ODIs for Team India. However, since the ODI World Cup 2023, the Men in Blue have played just two 50-over matches (one was rained off), and so Jaiswal couldn’t get his chance. His time has come now, it seems.

BCCI not entire ready for Nitish Reddy

Another name that has popped up is Nitish Kumar Reddy. Like Jaiswal, the all-rounder has made his Test and T20I debut, but he’s done so mere months ago. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still uncertain over his place in India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. If taken, Nitish Reddy go as a backup for Hardik Pandya but won’t be part of the main 15 but instead the travelling reserve.
