At the age of 22, Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to shatter records effortlessly. The young Indian opener notched his second double century in Test cricket during the 3rd Test against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Sunday, February 18. Despite battling back spasms on Sunday morning, Jaiswal unleashed a barrage of sixes, dismantling England’s bowling attack.

Achieving a double century in Test cricket is a significant milestone, placing a batsman among the elite in the sport. Jaiswal’s remarkable feat aligns him with legendary figures such as Don Bradman, Virat Kohli, and Wally Hammond.

Wally Hammond:

Wally Hammond, in the 1928 Ashes series against Australia, became the first player to achieve this milestone. Scoring 251 runs in the second innings of the Sydney test, Hammond etched his name in history. He followed it up with another double century in the subsequent match at the MCG.

Don Bradman:

Don Bradman, the epitome of batting excellence, recorded 12 double centuries in his illustrious Test career. During the 1934 Ashes series, he displayed his dominance by scoring consecutive double centuries. Bradman’s monumental triple century at Leeds was succeeded by a remarkable 244 at the Oval.

Vinod Kambli:

India’s Vinod Kambli, a talented left-hander, achieved this rare feat against two different teams. His double centuries against England and Zimbabwe in consecutive test innings in 1993 showcased his batting prowess.

Kumar Sangakkara:

Kumar Sangakkara, a stalwart of Sri Lankan cricket, amassed 11 double centuries in his career. In a memorable display of consistency, Sangakkara scored back-to-back double centuries against Bangladesh in 2007.

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke joined the elite club during South Africa’s tour of Australia in 2012. Clarke’s consecutive double centuries against South Africa demonstrated his class and resilience.

Virat Kohli:

Virat Kohli, known for his batting prowess, holds the record for the most double centuries by an Indian batsman in Test cricket. His back-to-back double centuries against Sri Lanka in 2017 solidified his status as one of the finest batsmen of his generation.

Yashasvi Jaiswal:

In the 2024 Test series against England, Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his exceptional talent by smashing two consecutive double centuries, marking his arrival among the elite in Test cricket.
