It was a terrific performance from the Tom Latham-led team with both bat and ball in hand. In the process, the hosts also earned vital 12 points in the World Test Championship Points Table and are now placed sixth on the points table. New Zealand dominated in the proceedings right from day one. First, they bundled the visitors out for just 95. Matt Henry took seven wickets and simply blew the South Africans away. Later with the bat in hand, New Zealand posted a mammoth score of 482. Henry Nicholas top scored with 105. Tom Blundell also chipped in with a vital contribution of 96.

In the second innings also, South African batters failed to put on a fight and were bundled out for just 111. Tim Southee picked up five wickets. This empathic win has pushed the hosts to the sixth spot. Sri Lanka are currently leading the points table with 24 points from two games. Australia and Pakistan are placed second and third respectively with 52 and 36 points respectively.

New Zealand look to continue momentum 

India are placed fifth on the WTC points table with 53 points with a win percentage of 49.07. New Zealand and South Africa will play the second Test match on February 25. The hosts will look to continue with the same momentum and look for a series sweep. Meanwhile, South Africa will look to bounce back by putting on a better performance with the bat in hand.
