WTC points table: Australia’s victory over New Zealand ensures India moves top of the pile

As per the latest WTC points table, Team India has moved to the top position for 2023-25 cycle, toppling New Zealand.

Team India went on to occupy the top spot in the World Test Championships points table on Sunday, after Australia beat New Zealand in the first Test at Wellington by 172 runs. This is not the only contributing factor though, as India has won the ongoing series against England 3-1, with one more Test to go in Dharamshala, starting March 7.

Now, with Australia winning, it means that the Kiwis have slipped to the second spot in the WTC points table, who were on a high after winning three Tests on the trot against South Africa and Bangladesh. This is just their second loss in the current WTC cycle, from 2023-25, and have a PCT (points contested) of 60.

Team India, on the other hand, have a PCT if 64.58, whereas Aussies, who are on the third place, have a PCT of 59.09.

Although, to stay at the top of the WTC points table, the Rohit Sharma-led team will have to win the fifth Test as well, that will take their PCT to 68.51. But in a scenario where New Zealand beat Australia in the second Test, and England beat Indians at Dharamshala, the Kiwis will go to the top position again.
