Who are still in the race?

  • Australia
  • India
  • SriLanka

India vs Australia: The only way India can miss out on the WTC Final spot is if Australia win the remaining two Tests and SriLanka pull off a huge upset in NewZealand with a 2-0 win. In that case, SriLanka will book the 2nd spot with 61 PCT. India will be knocked out with 56 PCT.

How can India qualify?

  • India are in the second spot with 64 percentage point.
  • Australia are at the top with 67 PCT.
  • India need to win the series at any cost.
  • Rohit Sharma & Co can still qualify with a draw in the 3rd and 4th Tests.
  • To put it in simple terms, India need to win 1 match out of two.
  • India lead 2-0 but it is still not enough as SriLanka can leapfrog India if they beat NewZealand.
  • South Africa and West Indies have been knocked out already.

Australia: Pat Cummins & Co on the other hand are now in danger. The World No 1 Test side came into the match as the World No 1. But now they are staring at a 0-4 humiliation after losing the 2nd Test in 4 days. Although Australia lead with 67% PCT, it may soon vanish if they lose to India in the 3rd Test. India will take the top spot.

How can Australia qualify?

  • Australia need at least a draw to seal the WTC Final slot.
  • Australia can qualify as the No 1 team if they win at least one out of the remaining two Tests.
  • However, they can still seal the WTC Final spot even with a 0-4 loss if SriLanka lose to NewZealand.
  • The only way Australia can be knocked out is if they lose to India 0-4 and SL blank NZ 2-0.

SouthAfrica: From a prime contender, Proteas have lost steam have been knocked out with India winning the 2nd Test. Had India lost the 2nd Test, SA had a slender chance. But now, under new Test captain Temba Bavuma, they will look to bounce back in the WTC 2023-25 cycle.

SriLanka: The equation for SriLanka is pretty straightforward. They must beat NewZealand away 2-0. But that’s not it. They have to hope that India manage a 4-0 cleansweep. If Australia manage a draw in either of the two remaining Tests, SriLanka will be knocked out.
