“Josh Hazlewood returned home from the IPL last weekend after experiencing minor side soreness after the completion of his most recent IPL match,” a CA spokesperson said.
“After a brief and precautionary rest period, Hazlewood returned to high-intensity bowling last week and will continue to increase his bowling workloads in preparation for the WTC and Ashes series. Hazlewood is considered fit and available for the WTC and Ashes Series.”
WTC Final 2023: Hazlewood fully fit ahead of WTC Final against India, pacer set to play second Test in 2023
Hazlewood had missed the initial few games for RCB due to recovering from an Achilles injury. The pacer did not feature in seven games for the side, before playing his first game of the IPL 2023 season against LSG on May 1.
However, the right-arm fast bowler played only two games before RCB director Mike Hesson confirmed Hazlewood’s absence from the business end of the tournament.
While Parnell replaced the Australia pacer in the playing XI, turns out Hazlewood was out for just precautionary reasons. Hazlewood last played a Test match against South Africa in January 2023 before he hurt his ankle and missed the first half of cricket in 2023.
Australia will depart for London on May 28. Pat Cummins & Co have opted from playing warm-up games before WTC final clash, instead Australia will be having several training sessions in Oval.
