The India Cricket Team completely turned the tide. The IND vs BAN Kanpur Test was initially heading towards a draw, but then on Day 4, India came out all guns blazing. India restricted Bangladesh to 233 in the first innings and then proceeded to bat. A destructive innings from the Indian batters saw them post 285 before declaring. While Ashwin and Jadeja wove their magic on Day 5.
India bowled out Bangladesh for 146 runs in the first session of the Day 5. And with India easily chasing down the 95 run target, the scenario for India reaching the WTC Finals. Had the match been a draw, then India would have needed 5 wins and 1 draw. But now as India have won the game, the hosts will needed 4 wins and 1 draw to play the finals at Lord’s.
How can India reach WTC Finals?
With this Test series done and dusted, just 8 Test matches remain before the much anticipated and much awaited WTC Finals. Following the IND vs BAN Test series, India will host New Zealand for a 3-match Test series. But these matches will all be in backdrop of the much awaited Border Gavaskar Trophy.
In the end of the year, India will travel to Australia to play a 5-Test match series. And this series is extremely crucial for Rohit Sharma and Co in their pursuit for third consecutive WTC Finals spot. India currently tops the WTC Standings and is closely followed by Australia at the second position.
Should the standings not change, then the ultimate showdown in summer of 2025 will see India play against Australia at the Lord’s.
