“Wrote it in the morning”: Abhishek Sharma on his heartfelt celebration vs PBKS

Abhishek Sharma revealed his celebration note was a morning instinct, written to thank the Orange Army before his century.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s explosive opening batter, Abhishek Sharma, opens up on his celebration. He speaks about the note he revealed after hitting a century against Punjab Kings on Saturday night. The note, which reads, “This one is for the Orange Army,” was a premeditated gesture of gratitude to the SRH fans. Sharma shared that he drafted the note on the morning of the match, feeling optimistic about his performance that day.

Abhishek’s Thought Process

Sharma, on the celebration, explained, “I wrote it today itself, because I usually wake up and write something. I got a random thought that if I do something today, that would be for Orange Army. Luckily, today I felt it was my day.” His approach to the game included trying new shots, as he mentioned, “If you’ve seen me close enough, I never play anything behind the wicket, but I was still trying few shots because they had a pretty good plan for us outside off. So, I wanted to just invent few shots which I think was very easy on this pitch because of the bounce and the size on one side.”

Travis Head’s take

Abhishek’s opening partner, Travis Head shared a different perspective, noting that Abhishek had kept a note in his pocket for multiple games, not just this one. “The note has been in the pocket of Abhishek Sharma for 6 games, glad it came out tonight,” Head explained, highlighting it was a matter of time before the celebratory note made its appearance.

Reflections on the match

Travis Head also reflected on the match, expressing satisfaction with the victory. “Not bad, nice to get on the winners list. Exceptional night, we needed it. We had our work cut out at the halfway point. We gave ourselves a chance, showed a bit more patience at the start. We knew the plans they were going to come with. Gave ourselves a bit more time and got off to a flier,” Head said. He believes in the importance of their strategy and partnership: “We did the things we did really well last year and that’s what made us such a good partnership. It’s just about encouraging each other, picking our targets and setting the stage.” he concluded.
