The WPL Retentions for the 2025 season will be announced on November 7 by all teams. And there is a lot of buzz around Mumbai Indians, who were the winners of the first season, and made it to the playoffs, in the second one as well. Look, they are a squad who have an extra-ordinary team, and don’t need to make a lot of changes anyways, but to rope in a few fresh faces, they would have to release a few.
Harmanpreet Kaur, Pooja Vastrakar Certainties for MI
One of their biggest strengths has been pacer Shabnim Ismail, who can rake up speeds over 130 kmph. Those sort of speeds are generally unheard of, in the women’s game, and always pose a challenge to the opposition. So without any doubt, she will be the first pick. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur will also continue to lead the team, no matter what.
Once again, just like RCB, MI has a battery of all-rounders who are truly world-class. That includes Amelia Kerr, Hayley Mathews, and Natalie Sciver. So MI wouldn’t want to let them go either. S Sajana, who was there in the T20 World Cup squad as well, has been decent for the team as well. and should likely get another go.
WPL Retention
Unfortunately, there aren’t many non-performers in the team., but someone might just get the axe. Perhaps, batter Amanjot Kaur could be one of them, who in 19 WPL matches has 81 runs, and is yet to prove her worth. Fatima Jaffer, from Mumbai’s famous Jaffer family, did not get a game this year, and could be well on her way out. Also, Chloe Tryon, the South African girl could miss the bus.
