While Delhi Capitals were handed a shock defeat by Mumbai Indians in the opening encounter of the WPL 2024, when Sajana S slammed a six on the last ball of the match, in the second, UP Warriorz fell short of the target by two runs in the second. Batting second, the team under Alyssa Healy, couldn’t chase down 158, as Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by two runs.
Despite such close matches. without doing much wrong, UP and Delhi both, find themselves without any point still. But Monday will be chance for redemption for them, to get off the mark in WPL 2024.
Delhi Need Work in Bowling
With the batters doing their job in the first outing, and scoring 171, there’s not much scope of improvement in that department, but there’s a lot left to be done by the bowlers, who leaked plenty of runs against Mumbai. Alice Capsey was the most expensive, who gave away 23 in two overs, with Annabel Sutherland being hit for 38 in four overs.
If the runs are curtailed, at least by a couple of bowlers in the team, there is no reason why Delhi Capitals can’t press for a win against UP Warriorz. All they need is discipline, that was lacking against Mumbai.
Top 3 Need to Fire for UP
It was one of those rare occasions where Australia skipper, and also UP leader, Alyssa Healy failed with the bat. She scored five from four. If that was not enough, Vrinda Dinesh got 18 from 28, and Tahila McGrath 22 from 18. That means, in 50 balls, UP Warriorz scored only 45 runs, eventually leading to their failure in the chase. Had any of the top three played a little better, they would have cross the finish line.
Come the match versus Delhi, there is hardly any doubt, that the team will be better prepared for the challenge. Also, given the inexperienced batting line up the team, has it has to be Alyssa, and Tahila, who will have show the way to rest of the batters.
