The BCCI has brought in Malika Advani to be the auctioneer instead of Hugh Edmeades. Malika is a Mumbai-based art collector consultant for Modern and Contemporary Indian art. She will oversee auctions set to be held on February 13 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The five WPL teams have been informed about Malika’s appointment.
About WPL auction
- A total of 246 Indian players, and 163 overseas, players of which eight players from associate nations will go under the hammer
- A maximum of 90 slots are available with the five teams, with 30 being slotted for overseas players.
- WPL 2023 Auction is set to be held at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on Monday, February 13.
- The auction will witness five new WPL Teams selecting their squads from 409 women cricketers in the auction list.
- The WPL auction 2023 will start at 2:30 PM IST
- The LIVE Programming of the Auction will start at 2 PM IST with Viacom 18 acquiring the RIGHTS of WPL for the next 5 seasons.

WPL 2023 Auction RULES:
What is the HIGHEST Base Price? The highest bracket at the auction will be INR 50 Lakh. Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and 8 others from India are in the same bracket. Overall 24 players are in the HIGHEST BASE BRACKET of 50 Lakhs.
In the next category, INR 40 lakh, there are 30 players, including eight from India.
What will be the size of the WPL Squad? A maximum of 90 slots can be filled. The squads will be of a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 18 players.
What will be the foreign players LIMIT in the squad? Each team can have up to six overseas players. This means the inaugural season of WPL will witness a maximum of 30 foreigners & 60 Indians.
Incentive of Picking player from Associate Nation: 8 Players in the Auction POOL are from Associate Nations. But to pick one of these 8 will come with an incentive scheme. Like IPL, Teams can field four overseas players in their XIs. But they will be allowed to include fifth overseas player, provided she is from an Associate nation.

What is the BREAK UP of players at the AUCTION? 28 players at the WPL Auction will be from Australia & 27 from England. 23 players come from the West Indies, 19 from New Zealand & 17 from South Africa. 15 players are from Sri Lanka, 11 from Zimbabwe, nine from Bangladesh. Ireland will be represented by six players at the AUCTION. 4 Players will be from the UAE, and one each from USA, Hong Kong, Netherlands and Thailand.
Who could be the big buys? The first set includes Devine, Ecclestone, Gardner, Harmanpreet, Mandhana, Hayley Matthews and Perry. All these players can go for the HIGHEST Amounts at the AUCTION.
Who are the youngest and the oldest players in the auction? Latika Kumari, aged 41, is the oldest player in the auction. Zimbabwe’s Marange is close on the heels at 40.
There are three who qualify to be the YOUNGEST at the age of 15. Fast bowler Shabnam MD and left-arm spinner Sonam Yadav, both of whom were part of the victorious India Under-19 side. Andhra left-arm spinner Vinny Suzan all have a base price of INR 10 lakh.
