WPL Auction LIVE: Having made some smart signings during the WPL Auction, Delhi Capitals owner Parth Jindal confirmed that the franchise is undecided over captaincy. India’s U-19 World Cup-winning skipper Shafali Verma, Australia captain Meg Lanning, Jemimah Rodrigues in contention to lead the team in the inaugural season. Speaking during the auction Jindal said, “It’s too early for that. Of course, there are captaincy options in those names. One is a U-19 World Cup-winning captain, Meg Lanning is a legend of the game. Jemimah, too, is a wonderful reader of the game. But it all depends on the coach and who else we pick in the end. But there are captaincy options for sure,”

Speaking of Lanning’s record she is currently one of the most experienced cricketers in women’s cricket. She has played 127 T20I matches for Australia, scoring 3,252. As a skipper, the Australian has led the team to Women’s T20 World Cup title in 2014, 2018 and 2020. She also captained Australia to the Commonwealth Games gold medal and Women’s World Cup win last year.

Shafali on the other hand never led any team prior to the U19 World Cup. If DC decides to with Lanning, then Verma will have the chance to learn from one of the greats in women’s cricket.

WPL Auction LIVE: Parth jindal on Delhi Capitals auction strategy

Speaking about franchises auction strategy, Jindal revealed that it was a challenge to adjust to lesser purse but they have set a price for players’ purchase.Jindal said, “ We have a ceiling price for every player, if the player goes above the ceiling, we have to pull out. We think some of the players went above our estimation, so we are happy with our buys so far,”

He added “That’s the beauty of the auction. We have to re-calibrate the numbers because we are used to the men’s (IPL) numbers and then you come in here… but, the budget is the budget and we are looking at it as the percentage of the purse. That’s the beauty of the auction. If you get it wrong, you get it wrong and your team suffers. If you get it right, you really get it right. It’s a balancing act,” he said.
