Base Price

The base price for the inaugural auction ahead of the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) has been divided into five categories from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh. While capped players – those who have played for India or currently have a central contract – can choose Rs. 30 lakh, Rs. 40 lakh or Rs. 50 lakh as their base price, the uncapped cricketers have been given two options (Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 20 lakh).

On Contrary, IPL has a total eight categories including INR 2 Crore, INR 1.5 crore, INR 1 Cr, INR 75 Lakhs, INR 50 Lakhs, INR 40 Lakhs, INR 30 Lakhs, INR 20 Lakhs.

Team Purse

As compared to IPL where each franchise is allowed to spend INR 85 crore, INR 12 crore will be the auction purse for the inaugural season of WPL. Each team can buy a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 18 in the first edition of WPL.

Overseas players:

BCCI has also allowed five foreign players in the playing XI with at least one cricketer from an Associate country. This is a shift from the IPL rule where only four foreign players are allowed. As a result, only six Indian players will be a part of the Playing XI in WPL.

Matches:

In another change, a total of 22 games will be played in the first edition of WPL as compared to IPL where a total of 74 matches are played. However, the top board has hinted that the number of games for the upcoming WPL might get increased in the following seasons.

Venues:

There’s a huge difference in terms of venue as well. While all ten teams in IPL will also be playing in their home conditions, only two venues Barbourne Stadium & DY Patil Stadium have been finalized for WPL. As per reports, BCCI was planning to conduct the final match of WPL at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, but that plan has been dumped to ensure Wankhede pitches stay fresh for the IPL matches.
