WPL 2024: Milestone maker Meg Lanning smashes blazing 50 to score 9000 T20 runs

Lanning is the most successful limited over skipper in cricket's history and has won five T20 World Cups with Australia.

Another mammoth milestone for Meg Lanning. The Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper stroked an incredible fifty in 39 balls and also joined an illustrious group of players to score 9000 T20 runs. With her side struggling, Lanning led the charge, scoring 51 of the 102 runs by the time she reached fifty.

The former Australian skipper has beaten Sophie Devine’s record and become the fastest woman to score 9000 runs in T20 cricket. Devine reached the landmark in 297 innings, while Lanning achieved the milestone in just 289 innings.

Opening the batting in the Gujarat Giants vs Delhi Capitals match, Meg Lanning played a captain’s knock and ensured they posted a competitive total of 163. If not for her fighting fifty, the Capitals might not have even crossed the 140-run mark.

Barring Lanning, no other batter from the Delhi Capitals crossed the 30-run mark. In the end, the former Australian skipper scored 55 of 41 balls at a strike rate of 134.15 and hit 6 fours and 1 six.

Her wicket in the 13th over proved to be the turning point. After her dismissal, the Capitals managed to score just 58 runs in 44 balls and lost five wickets on the way to post 163 on the board.
