Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians will square off in Game 16 of the current Women’s Premier League 2024 on Saturday, March 9. The WPL 2024 is in its final leg and the game will take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Mumbai Indians Women swiftly got back on track after losing to Delhi Capitals Women. The team destroyed UP Warriorz the night before. Sajana, Amelia Kerr, and Nat Sciver-Brunt made significant contributions that helped the team rally from early wicket losses to a respectable total of 160 runs. Later, Saika Ishaque and Shabnim Ismail led the chase, destroying UP’s batting order in the first ten overs. Deepti Sharma worked really hard from 69/6 to make a game out of it, but her resistance was thwarted by the lack of support from the other end.
Following four losses in the tournament, Gujarat Giants Women dominated RCB-W to come back to winning ways. The assault at the top by Beth Mooney and Laura Wolvaardt enabled Gujarat Giants to record their highest first-inning score of the season of 199 runs. Georgia Wareham of RCB made a valiant 48-run innings, but the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women ultimately fell short by 19 runs.
Pitch Report
For batters, the pitch at Arun Jaitley Stadium has been a dream come true. This year’s WPL has seen a gain in the batters’ advantage due to shorter boundaries and a quick outfield. But in the middle overs, spinners can re-enter the fray, and early movement with the new ball is always a possibility. Since the first innings score typically ranges from 160 to 170 runs, chasing appears to be the best course of action.
