WPL 2024 Final: RCB’s spin trio triggers collapse; Molineux, Shreyanka & Sobhana single-handedly down DC

The spin trio claimed all 10 wickets of the Delhi Capitals. The spinners combined cleaned up 9 batters with the ball, and Radha Yadav was sent back by Sophie Molineux due to her exceptional fielding.

Spinners day out! Who would have thought that after going unscathed after the end of the powerplay, the Delhi Capitals would lose all ten of their wickets to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s spin trio of Sophie Molineux, Shreyanka Patil, and Asha Sobhana? From 64/0 to 113/10, DC lost ten wickets in the space of 68 balls by giving away just 49 runs in the WPL 2024 Final.

It all started with Molineux, who had Shafali Verma caught at deep mid-wicket for a well-made 44 of 27 balls. Just two days later, she cleaned up in the form Jemimah Rodrigues and sent their star all-rounder Alice Capsey in the next three days. In just four balls, Royal Challengers Bangalore was on top.

However, Shreyanka Patil one-upped Molineux. The off-spinner claimed an impressive 4-wicket haul, sending skipper Meg Lanning back, and finished off the inning with the last two wickets and on a hat-trick. Patil also finished the inning as the highest wicket-taker in the WPL 2024 season.

It was then the last match’s hero, Asha Sobhana’s, turn. The leggie claimed the prized wicket of Jess Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp’s wicket and ensured the Delhi Capitals middle order didn’t fight back in the WPL 2024 Final.
