In a big development regarding the Women’s Premier League, the auction for the second edition of the WPL will be conducted on December 9. Apart from that, franchises in the WPL will also be allotted additional salary purses ahead of the big auction.
It must be noted that the second edition of the WPL will be conducted as compared to the inaugural edition., which began on March 4. According to reports, BCCI will holding an auction on December 9 as the teams will be able to add players to their squad. BCCI on October 19, published a list of players and of those, the five WPL franchises retained 60 players and released 29.
Mumbai Indians won inaugural WPL edition
The Mumbai Indians, led by Harmanpreet Kaur managed to defeat Meg Lanning-led Delhi Capitals, in the summit clash in Mumbai to become the first-ever champions of the tournament. The two teams that have had a forgettable season were the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants who placed fourth and fifth in the points standings, respectively.
WPL was soon followed by the Indian Premier League and is expected to be the case next year as well with ICC T20 World Cup slated later in the year in West Indies and the USA.
Apart from MI and Delhi, the two sides that have had a forgettable season were the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants who placed fourth and fifth in the points standings, respectively. However, both camps will be looking to turn the tables in the upcoming edition of WPL.
