Ex-India coach reveals MI’s likely approach in WPL 2024 auction
Speaking to News18, the former India coach opined that MI will use the WPL 2024 auction as a ‘platform for investment’. Raman backed the side to pick unknown players who are talented and said that they will ‘unearth uncut and unpolished diamonds’. She further added that Mumbai Indians will look for Indian youngsters, asserting that it was important to have a good young Indian contingent in order to win the tournament.
“What they will do is use this auction as a platform for investment. They will unearth uncut and unpolished diamonds like they always do. I am sure that they will pick up three-four players for the future. They will develop their skills so that they are going to serve them in the years to come”, Raman said to News18.
“I think that’s exactly what Mumbai Indians are going to do in this auction. They will look for young Indian players because they know that you need to have a strong Indian contingent in your squad for you to win tournaments“, she added.
Mumbai Indians will enter the WPL 2024 auction looking for fresh talent, having released only 4 players. The side has a purse of Rs 2.10 cr and has the bandwidth to buy five players, including one foreign player. However, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team has retained the core of the WPL-winning squad.
