WPL 2023: UP Warriorz Captain – Just two weeks before the Women’s Premier League, UP Warriorz have named Australian Alyssa Healy as the captain of the franchise for the inaugural season. Capri Global Holdings Private Limited, the owners of the Lucknow franchise made the announcement on Wednesday. While Deepti Sharma was the favourite, considering Healy’s experience in leading Australia, the franchises decided to name her the captain. “I am delighted to have the chance to captain the UP Warriorz in the historic WPL that will be played in Mumbai. The WPL is a tournament we have all been keenly waiting on. The UP Warriorz have a fantastic squad, waiting to make a splash once things get going. We have a good mix of experience and youth along with ability and look forward to putting on a show for our fans. We are here to win and be ruthless in our brand of cricket,” said captain Alyssa Healy.

Alyssa Healy, who holds the record of highest individual score in T20s with 148 against Sri Lanka, has won T20 World Cup for Australia five times. She is also a double ODI World Cup winner with Australia. She bagged ICC T20 Player of the Year in 2018.

However, before the WPL, Healy will be up against Deepti Sharma on Thursday in the Women’s T20 World Cup. India are up against world champion Australia in the semifinals of WT20 WC.
