The Giants then clarified the situation suggesting that the side failed to receive medical clearance from the player which is mandatory.

Taking to social media, the Gujarat Giants released a statement, “Deandra is a world-class player and a wonderful signing for the franchise. Unfortunately, we were unable to obtain a medical clearance before the defined deadline for this season, such clearances are a requirement of all players participating in the WPL.

“We look forward to seeing her return to the field soon. Subject to the clearance of her medical report, she will be part of the Gujarat Giants squad in the upcoming seasons,” concluded the statement.

Deandra Dottin’s version of events

Just before the final game of the Gujarat Giants’ season, Dottin has slammed for her omission. In a detailed statement, she narrated her version of events.

“I would like to make it clear that I had experienced minor abdominal pain and swelling for which I had sought treatment in December 2022. I was transparent about this in correspondence with Gujarat Giants’ physiotherapist,” Dottin mentioned.

She added,  “However, this was misconstrued and later conveyed to the members of the franchise’s management team as me ‘Experiencing abdominal pain post-session, which was not what I had indicated.”

Dottin adds she received a medical clearance on February 20 but the franchise insisted on getting herself assessed. She later was to submit reports of her scans to the franchise. The West Indian reveals while she submitted the report days in advance, she was asked for a new scan.

While the franchise maintained she had a ‘solid role to play’, the team informed Dottin about her expulsion. Giants subsequently roped in Kim Garth.  While Giants maintained that all players had to submit reports, Dottin says other players were not subject to the same.

“I remain deeply disappointed by what can only, plausibly, be described as bewildering reasoning for my omission from the tournament,” she wrote.
