Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly confirmed that Jhulan Goswami has signed with Mumbai Indians. Ganguly, now back as Director of Cricket with Delhi Capitals, had made an offer to Jhulan. However, the leading wicket-taker in ODIs has taken an offer from the Mumbai Indians.
“Jhulan has gone to Mumbai. We had given her an offer, but she is going to Mumbai,” Ganguly told media at Eden Gardens on Tuesday.
Earlier, reports had suggested that Jhulan and Mithali were both keen to return to the field for the inaugural season. Delhi Capitals had their eyes on Goswami for a long time. Since last year, the Capitals have kept Goswmai under the radar to pick her up as the bowling coach for the upcoming IPL 2023 season.
The 40-year-old retired from international cricket last year after a farewell game at Lord’s. She took 355 international wickets across formats, the most by any bowler in women’s cricket.

Jhulan’s long-time teammate Mithali Raj was officially announced as the team mentor for the Women’s IPL franchise Gujarat Giants. While Raj was keen on a playing role, she has latched up on the opportunity to enter coaching for the inaugural season.
Earlier, a News18 report stated that Mithali had intentions of playing the inaugural season. Raj was keen to represent Mumbai but a deal never materialised. In the meantime, Gujarat Giants pounced and offered a lucrative team mentor role. Mithali pounced on the opportunity and will serve as a mentor and advisor.
