WPL 2023 Format: Women’s Premier League – One of the significant changes that have been brought in the inaugural edition of WPL is the scrapping of the Playoff system. The IPL boasts of having a playoff system in their bid to have the top 4 teams of the points table fight amongst themselves and ultimately the winner is decided. However, that is not the case in Women’s Premier League. The table topper heads to the finals while the second and the third clash between themselves in a single eliminator. One of the main reasons for this special system is the total number of teams participating in the tournament. As a total of 5 teams are participating, the new system will allow only the top 3 teams in the playoffs system. The bottom two teams will end their journey post the group stage.
The table topper directly qualifies for the WPL Finals, while the second and the third place team will battle amongst each other in a single playoff eliminator to reach the finals.
The inaugural WPL season will see 5 teams locking horns with each other as the maiden edition of the Women’s Premier League is scheduled to run for 22 matches.

The first-ever Women’s IPL match will see Mumbai face off against Ahmedabad-based Gujarat Giants on March 4. The clash is a highly-billed contest given the teams are owned by business tycoons Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani. The entirety of the tournament will be held at the Brabourne Stadium & the DY Patil Stadium.
The BCCI has set the ball rolling with Mumbai set to face Gujarat Giants in the first-ever Women’s IPL match in history. With just over a month to go before the tournament, Cricbuzz reports that the Indian cricket board has informed the relevant authorities of the same. The tournament as reported earlier by Insidesport, will be held from March 4-26 in Mumbai.
