WPL 2023: SouthAfrica star Laura Wolvaardt is all set to join the Gujarat Giants in the coming days to take part in the inaugural Women’s Premier League. One of the most shocking snubs at the WPL Auction, Laura Wolvaardt now has a WPL deal under her belt. The SouthAfrican superstar joins Gujarat Giants midway through the tournament. She replaces the injured Beth Mooney, who suffered an injury in the very first over of the WPL.

Wolvaardt featured in the PSL Women’s EXhibition matches on Wednesday, the same day as Gujarat Giants face RCB Women. She will however join up with the squad before the game against Delhi Capitals, which is on Saturday. She scored a 36-ball 53 as Super Women beat Amazons by eight wickets. Sune Luus will replace her in the Super Women squad.

Laura Wolvaardt was one of the stars of South Africa’s t20 WC campaign, where they lost to Australia in the final. She scored three consecutive half-centuries, including a match-winning 53 to knock England out in the semifinal and 61 in the final. Wolvaardt had registered in thew WPL Auction for Rs 30 lakh, but had gone unsold.

Meanwhile, Sneh Rana will continue to lead the side. Rana took over duties from Beth Mooney who was ruled out due to injury. The Indian all-rounder has previously led the Railways in domestic cricket.
