While BCCI has kept ticket costs for WPL games reasonable, there is yet to be a sold-out crowd at the WPL two days in. During the opening game on Saturday and the doubleheader on Sunday, many empty stands were spotted at the venue. Some fans attended the opening ceremony on Saturday but did not stay back to watch the match at the DY Patil Stadium.

Now after proclaiming sold-out crowds, BCCI were left red-faced during the DC vs RCB clash. While there was a sizeable crowd watching, it was no comparison to the sold-out crowds during the India vs Australia series last year. The same trend continued in the 3rd game of the season as UP Warriorz faced Gujarat Giants.

A major reason for the same could be how the contests have panned out. WPL kicked off with two one-sided contests. Mumbai Indians defeated the Gujarat Giants by a whopping 143 runs, while Delhi Capitals thrashed RCB by 60 runs.

While it is still early days for the tournament, BCCI will be keen to address the issue. While the minimal costs mean there is not much of a financial incentive for the Indian Cricket Board, but a sold-out crowd augurs well for the new league.
