WPL 2023 Auction: The operations of the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League have been up and running. The WPL 2023 auction is slated to be held on February 13. The marquee event will witness established performers of the T20 circuit go under the hammer and franchises might even break the bank to acquire them. The much-anticipated inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League will be held in Mumbai from March 4 to 26. A total of 22 matches will be played, with the Brabourne Stadium and D.Y. Patil Stadium playing hosts to the marquee five-team tournament. Ahead of the league, 409 cricketers – 246 Indians and 163 overseas players (including eight from associate nations) will go under the hammer on February 13 in Mumbai.

Among the 246 Indians, U19 T20 World Cup 2023 champions like Shafali Verma, Shweta Sehrawat, Parshavi Chopra, and Titas Sadhu have been shortlisted for the Women’s Premier League auction.

A total of 1525 players had registered for the inaugural WPL Player Auction and the final list was pruned to 409 players. Out of 409 players, 246 are Indians. 163 are overseas players with eight of them from associate nations. The total capped players are 202, uncapped players are 199 and 8 from associate nations. A maximum of 90 slots are available for the five teams, with 30 being slotted for overseas players.

INR 50 lakh is the highest reserve price with 24 players choosing to be slotted in the highest bracket. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and India’s Under-19 T20 World Cup-winning captain Shafali Verma are amongst the few Indians who have slotted themselves in the highest bracket.
