WPL 2023 Auction: Malika Advani auction – WPL may not be a women-only affair but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has ensured there is women’s presence at the auction at least. Instead of Hugh Edmeades, BCCI has appointed Malika Advani as the auctioneer for the first-ever Women’s Premier League (WPL) Auction. Malika is a Mumbai-based art collector consultant for Modern and Contemporary Indian art. She will oversee auctions set to be held on February 13 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. WPL 2023 Auction: BCCI instructs the five WPL teams about buying only six foreign players, teams to have budget 12 crore
BCCI have also informed the five WPL teams about having a 15-member squad. A minimum of 9 Crore can be spent on buying the players. The value of the full pusre is 12 Crores. Each team can buy up to six foreign players.

How many players have registered in the WPL auction?
Out of 1525 players registered in the auction, only 409 players are shortlisted.
How many matches will be played in WPL 2023 season?
22 matches will be played in the inaugural edition of the WPL season.
How many players will be brought or sold?
A maximum of 90 slots the five teams can have players between 15 to 18. Each franchise can have up to six overseas players.
How many Indian players and overseas players have been listed for auction?
246 Indian players and 163 overseas players have been registered for the WPL auction.
How many players are in the Top bracket in terms of base price?
A total of 24 players including 10 Indian players have the highest base price.
The bidding increments will be as follows:
– bids up to INR 1 crore: increments of INR 5 lakh
– bids from INR 1 crore to INR 2 crore: increments of INR 10 lakh
– bids from INR 2 crore to INR 3 crore: increments of INR 20 lakh
– bids from INR 3 crore: increments at the auctioneer’s discretion, but not less than INR 20 lakh
The BCCI is also providing strategy breaks every hour during the auction. Each break will be of 10-minute duration for the franchises to review their tactics in regular intervals.
“Following the conclusion of each set, there may (at the Auctioneer’s discretion) be a short break to allow franchises time to re-evaluate tactics. The length of each break will be announced by the Auctioneer at the conclusion of the relevant set. A warning bell will ring two minutes before the resumption of the Player Auction after each break. The Player Auction will re-start promptly after each break. It is anticipated that these short breaks will total a minimum of 10 minutes in every hour of the Player Auction proceedings,” the BCCI note says.
