TATA WPL 2023: Women Premier League –  TATA Group have bagged the rights for the Women’s Premier League. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced the sale of the rights, and TATA, who owns the IPL title worship snapped up the same. As per Cricbuzz, TATA have signed a five-year agreement with BCCI for the title sponsorship for the Women’s Premier League. One of the biggest conglomerates in India, the deal follows TATA’s title rights for the IPL. Tata and Sons had replaced the Chinese tech brand Vivo. The value of the WPL sponsorship deal is yet to be confirmed.

The BCCI had invited bids for the title rights on February 9, days before the inaugural auction. Two weeks later, the Indian cricket board have found their partners in what is a huge boost to the league. The title sponsorship and the broadcast deal with Viacom already make WPL one of the biggest franchise T20 leagues in the cricket fraternity.

Cricbuzz understands that Tata Sons, the holding company will have the rights for the first five years. Tata Motors and Tata financial services will be the products leveraged. Tata Motors has been a constant in the IPL in recent seasons, with the Super Striker Award, with their cars – Tata Nexon, Tata Harrier and Tata Punch all being up for grabs.

While the value of the deal is still under wraps,  BCCI have hit the jackpot with the WPL. The Indian cricket board sold five teams for a combined 4670 crore, before 951 crore deal with Viacom18.

The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League will kick off on March 4. The 22-game season will be played across two venues – DY Patil Stadium and the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The final will be played on March 26, 5 days before IPL 2023.
