“Wouldn’t say it’s an easy win”: Not Bumrah, New Zealand fear weather gods on Day 5

New Zealand pacer William O'Rourke hoped that rain would not impact the IND vs NZ 1st Test on Day 5 in Bengaluru as the Kiwis need 107 runs to win

New Zealand cricket team pacer William O’Rourke admitted that the side’s chances of winning the IND vs NZ 1st Test would only be higher if rain does not play spoilsport. Day 5 will decide the fate of the contest in Bengaluru that currently faces a rain threat. The visitors need 107 runs to win the match and stand a good chance to do so, if bad weather does not play spoilsport.

O’Rourke wants rain to stay away on Day 5 of IND vs NZ 1st Test

Speaking at the press conference after the day’s play, O’Rourke admitted that victory was not as easy as it looked as they were up against a “world class” Indian team. He added that it was imperative for the rain to stay away in order for the Kiwis to stand a chance to win.

I wouldn’t say it’s an easy win from here. We’ve got a world-class team going up against us. But we’ve got to be confident going out there tomorrow. Hopefully, for our sake the rain stays away and we get a chance to have a crack at it,” William O’Rourke said.

The New Zealand pacer was phenomenal in the 1st Test in Bengaluru, picking up 7 wickets across 2 innings. After rattling India’s batting order with his four-wicket haul in the 1st innings, he impressed once again by bagging three wickets in the 2nd innings. His victims included star Indian batters like Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja. Along with Matt Henry, O’Rourke played a vital role in ensuring the collapse of the Indian batting order.

New Zealand will be praying to the weather gods for rain to stay away on Day 5. Although they need only 107 runs to win, the weather forecast for Bengaluru on Sunday doesn’t look bright. There is 80% chance of rain with a forecast for thunderstorm and heavy cloud cover as well. Day 1 of play was already washed out due to incessant rain in Bengaluru.
