‘Wouldn’t lose a minute’s sleep over KL Rahul’s strike rate’: LSG coach Justin Langer ahead of PBKS clash

Although KL Rahul scored a half-century in the previous match against Rajasthan Royals, he came under fire for being cautious in his approach.

There have been a lot of talks about KL Rahul’s slow strike rate especially since Lucknow Super Giants suffered their first defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals. Although the LSG captain scored a hafl-century in that match, his 58-run inning came in 44 balls. However, as LSG prepare to take on Punjab Kings, coach Justin Langer heavily backed Rahul and said his slow strike rate was not a matter of concern at all.

Chasing a target of 194 runs, LSG fell 20 runs short at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. KL Rahul looked solid from the start but was cautious in his approach. He paced his innings according to himself as the game went out of LSG’s reach. He was criticised following the defeat, with questions being raised on whether he can eke out a place for himself in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Rahul’s strike rate not a problem

“He’s an outstanding player,” Langer said during a pre-match press conference at Ekana Stadium on Friday. “His success with the Indian team speaks for itself.

“I’m fortunate to have him leading the side as our opening batsman, wicket-keeper, and captain. He brings a sense of calm to the team. Some have spoken about his (lower) strike rate but I wouldn’t lose a minute’s sleep over it. Like I said, LSG is lucky to have him at the helm,” Langer said.
