Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer opines that MS Dhoni’s decision to leave CSK captaincy will make the new skipper’s job more difficult. His remarks come a day after MSD handed over captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad a day before the IPL 2024 opener. Jaffer feels Dhoni should have retired instead of relinquishing captaincy.
Jaffer questions MS Dhoni’s move to step down as CSK skipper
“I think it would have made more sense if MS Dhoni was not around. He had retired, and he was not around. It would have made any captain’s life a lot easier. Now, with MS Dhoni being around, it always makes a job a lot more difficult for any captain,” Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo.
“Whether he takes any decision and whether Dhoni agrees to it or not. Whether he likes those decisions. And you are on your own, and we all know that Ruturaj Gaikwad would have been the successor. But I think if Dhoni was not around, it would have made a lot more easier,” said Jaffer.

New Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad revealed that he was given a hint by MS Dhoni last on getting the captaincy baton.
“I don’t think so I need to change anything. Last year itself, Mahi bhai had just hinted about captaincy at some point in time. Just hinted that ‘be ready, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to you. So when we came into the camp, obviously he made me involved in some of the practice match simulation,” said Ruturaj.
