The World Cup Ticket fiasco is nothing new for World Cup 2023. But now things have taken a wrong turn! A public interest litigation has been filed at the Allahabad High Court regarding the discrepancies over the ticket prices for India vs England clash set to take place at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Earlier the BCCI made it clear that the out of the five matches set to be held in Lucknow will begin from a price range of 499 rupees. But the exception to this rule was the India vs England mega clash. Unfortunately, the ticket prices for the IND vs ENG have been absurd and have been placed at an exorbitant rate of Rs. 3250.

An individual by the name of Vipul Tripathi filed the PIL citing a discrepancy in the proper pricing of the World Cup tickets. Reports further claim that initially the ticket prices were supposed to be set for a price of Rs. 1500. But then after it was exponentially raised to Rs. 3250. Furthermore, it needs to be noted that these tickets have not been available for sale yet.
As per the PIL, the BCCI should take charge of the matter and settle it. The PIL stated, “Moreover, this is the first occasion that Lucknow is hosting the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. As a result, individuals from economically disadvantaged backgrounds may be compelled to purchase tickets at rates exceeding Rs 499 to watch their own country’s team.”

The PIL also charged the apex cricket body of the country in not specifically mentioning a rule, following which the ticket prices are to be determined for the ongoing World Cup. The BCCI has also been requested to bring down the prices to a mere price of Rs 499 as has been the case for the previous games.
